"Choose Genetic Code" window insistence...
Mar 19th, 2008 at 2:37pm

Hi,
When I try to run a positive selection analysis, the analysis will run, bring up a results window, and then (most of the time) insist that I again choose a genetic code, coding file, and tree file for another analysis. I'm not permitted to examine my results window (or save them  Sad). When I try to "cancel" the genetic code window, it closes only to pop up again (and again, and again). If i give in and choose a genetic code, coding file, and tree file, the program crashes (along with my unsaved results). I have run this analysis 6 times, and I have tried reinstalling HyPhy, all to no avail. Can you help me look at my positive selection results?
thanks so much!

Dear Sara,

Which computer are you running this on? We've had some really odd issues with Windows Vista.
Just to be sure - which analysis are you talking about here?

Cheers,
Sergei

Sorry -- I meant to include that. I am using Windows Vista, and I'm trying to run the YangNielsenBranchSite2005 analysis. I have a powerpoint file with screenshots and a detailed description of my issue, if you'd like me to send it to you. Thanks!

Dear Sara,

That would be very helpful (e-mail to spond.at.ucsd-dot-edu).
We don't have a single Windows Vista machine in the group (we have a few with Windows XP) that I can use to debug the problem; I have heard stories about odd Windows Vista behavior. Let me see what I can do.

Cheers,
Sergei

Dear Sara,

According to Microsoft, if you right click on the HyPhy.exe file and select Properties, there should be a compatibility tab, under which you should be able to select the option to run HyPhy in Windows XP compatibility mode (Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login Login). See if that helps.

Cheers,
Sergei

Hi Sergei,
Sadly, it did not help. I was able to run the program in XP compatibility mode, but the Genetic Code window still popped up at the end and prevented me from interacting with the other HyPhy windows. And again, making the selections it was asking for caused a crash. Boo!  Undecided
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
