HYPHYMP crashes irregularly
Aug 24th, 2012 at 10:52am

Hi Sergei,

Have you seen this before? HYPHYMP crashes a lot, but not every time, on my Mac. It's always in the same function, _LikelihoodFunction::ComputeBlock. It doesn't happen if I run HYPHYSP, so it must be a multiple process problem.

I can make the bug happen consistently using the LRT.bf example file, because of the 100 iterations that it performs. I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.4, HYPHY version "Source 2.1120120813beta".

I am attaching the crash log.

Thanks,
Daisie

Hi Daisie,

Unfortunately there are known issues with Lion (OS 10.7.*) and OpenMP, which is what HyPhy uses for multithreading. You can either use the single threaded version, or try upgrading to OS 10.8 (it seems to solve the problem).

Best,
Sergei

I am also getting a hang using HYPHYMP vs HYPHYSP on a SuSE Linux box. I'm not sure how to provide stack trace information on that hang, though.
